CEO Climate Dialogue Statement on the Release of the Business Roundtable Policy on Climate Legislation
September 16, 2020
The CEO Climate Dialogue (CCD) released the following statement in response to the release of a new policy on climate legislation by the Business Roundtable:
“As a group of 21 leading businesses and 4 leading environmental nongovernmental organizations, we are unified in our support for enactment of climate policy that is market-based, durable, effective, and that advances equity for all communities while significantly reducing emissions and supporting the competitiveness of the U.S. economy. We welcome the decision by the Business Roundtable to support enactment of a federal climate policy that is largely consistent with these CEO Climate Dialogue goals as stated in our Guiding Principles.
We agree that to be effective, climate policy must be centered on a market-based approach, such as carbon pricing, which is highlighted in the Business Roundtable’s new climate principles, and must support the competitiveness of U.S. business, align with scientific evidence and protect communities. We are encouraged to see an organization as fundamental to the business community as the Business Roundtable support this common-sense approach to climate policy and we hope it will have a significant impact on building on the momentum we see for climate policy action now. It should now be clearer than ever before that we have no time to waste and no time for anything other than broad-based, bipartisan, bold action that will begin to address the growing threat of a changing climate.”
The CEO Climate Dialogue is a group of more than two dozen organizations and their CEOs – 21 companies with over $1.4 trillion in combined annual revenue and four of the country’s leading environmental nonprofit organizations – committed to advancing climate action through durable, bipartisan federal climate policy in the U.S. Congress to reduce the impact of human contribution to our changing climate.
