CEO Climate Dialogue Statement on Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework
June 30, 2021
“The CEO Climate Dialogue is encouraged to see Congress and the Administration working together to introduce the bipartisan infrastructure framework. We welcome the climate and energy provisions of this bipartisan discussion. The policies in this framework, while helpful, are only one piece of the solution set needed to address the climate crisis. The urgency of this crisis demands additional policies, including policies that set an economy-wide price on carbon. As Congress and the Administration continue to negotiate infrastructure legislation, additional action must be taken on climate this year.
We urge policymakers to consider an economy-wide carbon price alongside measures that boost and invest in clean energy and drive down greenhouse gases at scale. While no one step alone will allow us to make the progress needed to avoid the worst economic, health, and environmental impacts of climate change, an economy wide market-based price on carbon would increase our ability to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the US economy by 2050.
We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to advance climate change solutions, like carbon pricing, that elevate the role of the U.S. as a climate leader, accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, bolster investment and innovation in clean energy technologies, increase U.S. economic competitiveness, and create American jobs.”
